flameshaft's Hidden Gem Mangas Empty
PostSubject: flameshaft's Hidden Gem Mangas   flameshaft's Hidden Gem Mangas EmptyThu Aug 01, 2013 9:40 pm

I thought I would kinda copy kujika and do a recommendations thread. But rather than just throw out all the ones I liked/loved, I want others to discover these manga gems that may be more obscure, or just less well-known.

One-shots:
. Koe no Katachi - a girl with impaired hearing who transfers into a new middle school class
. Personant - a world where everyone wears technologically advanced masks, and a man who defies the system
. Pandora Cube - a story of friendship and truth
. Souten no Komori - a shinobi wakes up in the enemy's mansion. The mansion's young master manage to make the unemotional shinobi smile. Then there's an attack... (by Arakawa Hiromu, creator of FMA)
. Yoru to Yakusoku - the life of a boy who is secretly a half-youkai

Series:
. Iris Zero - in a world where all children have a special seeing ability, there is a boy who doesn't have one
. Bloody Monday - an intense series that includes a hacker and some terrorism
. Cristo ~ Orange-Eyed Messiah - a boy becomes a sweeper while looking up to the legendary Cristo, and gets saved by a former sweeper. Then he discovers the former sweeper's secret.
. Hamster no Kenkyuu Report - a cute report on a hamster's life
. Hohzuki Island - a boy and his blind sister discover the secrets behind the teachers' actions on a near-deserted island
. Life is Money - a psychological warfare manga where ten contestants put their lives on the line to win 50,000,000 yen
. Zennou no Noa ~ The World of Lost Memories - some years ago, a huge flash made a lot of people lose their memories. They are now living in a city underneath Tokyo and are labeled as KIDz. Not everyone is happy with their current status...
. Gordian Knot - a boy who can unravel all tricks and solve all puzzles
. di[e]ce - two boys who look alike are pitted against each other as Kings in a game called di[e]ce, where the aim is to kill the other king
. Lying Mii-Kun and Broken Maa-Chan: Precious Lies - eight years ago, the protagonists were kidnapped together. In the present time, in a city where a kidnapping and serial murder are occurring simultaneously, they reunite and start living together, despite the fact that one of them is the kidnapper.
. Paradox Blue - strange beings called "Angels" come to earth to present riddles to humans in their vicinity. Right answers are rewarded with a blessing to the land. Wrong answers are punished with eradication of the city. A "choose your own adventure" style manga.
. Torikago no Tsugai - while searching for a missing friend, a six teens wander inside an abandoned amusement park. After going into the Birdcage Castle, they are trapped in a survival game based on choices. (First recommended by xah ^^)
. Bloody Junkie - a survival manga where the game is viewed on the internet. Viewers can communicate with the participants through a chatroom. Unfortunately, it has been dropped for no known reason...
. NEW! Kazan - sole survivor of his clan, Kazan searches for his friend Elsie, who was kidnapped 10 years before. Since that fateful day, the boy had been stuck in the body of a 7-year-old, and travels with his eagle, who had been aging normally. His quest is wrought with secrets...

Ah, I'm not very good at summarizing the mangas... forgive me... just go look them up, and you'll probably find better summaries...

And my personal top 5 (not necessarily in that order):
. Fullmetal Alchemist
. D.Gray-Man
. Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)
. Black Cat
. Code: Breaker
Summarizing these five won't do them justice >.<

You're welcome ^^

Well, my goal was to get these mangas to be more well-known, seeing how good they are. Yet there are so few people who actually read these.

That's why I consider them "hidden gems." They're so good, yet no one knows. =D

If I'm absolutely honest I think your choice of oneshots is more on the unique/original side. Don't get me wrong I really love the Tengu oneshot - the emotions and the tengu - but it's kind of more generic. Ofc it's your choice to add it or not ~ just my 2 cent. Just go the scanlator's main site and then to projects->oneshots-> gangan online (O-Z). (I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to post other scanlator links in here :x)

you're right... It's just that I just read it, and thought it was pretty good, so i thought i would put it in... i forgot this was more of a "hidden gems" recommendations list.

and yes, i don't like so many of the generic ones, i guess. I do like some of them, but others that ppl have been telling me to read just haven't appealed to me (like One Piece, Fairy Tail, etc.) I do read Naruto, though, but Bleach has gotten on the boring side for me (just to mention the top 4 of most popular shounen manga lists).

I also get bored of the typical shounen mangas at times, too. I tend to look for darker/more obscure mangas...

Have you read Biscuit Hammer? It's pretty good :3 The author is the same one as the one for Nobungun.

I realized this but you missed the breaker and the new waves as well. They are my FAVORITES!!! Art is great, plot as well, plus who doesn't like kick-ass martial arts. It is so awesome, everyone should give it a shot because you won't regret it!!★☆★☆★
